Exam Stress Massage

Exam Stress, Massage, Relax and Refine, Stess, SEN, Anxiety, Autism

Most adults know about the benefits of massage from a health and well being point of view – but what about teenagers?

Teenagers can suffer from a high amount of stress due to exams, school life, family and social  life.

Massage  has been shown to benefit teenagers in a variety of  ways:

  1. Massage helps young adults to to focus better at school, which is an especially good thing  when exams are approaching.

  2. Regular massage sessions will aid quality sleep.

  3. Massage helps to deal with stress – and the teenage years  certainly can be a stressful time of life. High expectations from teachers and parents, changing bodies and peer pressure can all contribute to a young person’s stress and anxiety levels.   Massage can help relieve some of that pressure and help the young person deal with it more effectively.

  4. Introducing your teenager to the benefits of massage will help promote their own sense of well being, encouraging them to take an active role in taking care of their own body.

Below is a brief summary of what to expect during a massage as we understand this may be your teenager's  first experience of a massage and could feel feel a bit nervous as what to expect .

Body massage ( Swedish, Back, neck& shoulders)

  • Before your massage, you’ll be asked to remove clothing.(Underwear stays on)

  • The therapist will leave the room while you undress. Take off only as much as you are comfortable removing.

  • Lie on the massage table, underneath the provided towels or blanket, which will cover your body.

  • The massage table may have extra attachments or cushions, such as a face cradle, which allows you to lie face down without turning your head or neck.

  • The therapist will move the towel to show only the area being massaged for example: left leg.

  • The therapist will use a warm oil when carrying out the massage.

  • The therapist will check on pressure and comfort. If you're uncomfortable at any time, tell your  therapist.

  • After your massage, the massage therapist will allow you to slowly get up and get dressed in privacy.

Chair massage

A specially-designed massage chair lets you lean forward and supports the front of the body. You remain clothed and no oil or lotion is used.

Indian head massage

You sit on a low back chair and have the option of removing your top and having a towel wrapped around you ( in private) and the  therapist will use an oil to massage your head shoulders and back.

Alternatively  you can keep your top on and the therapist will use pressure point techniques rather than long flowing massage techniques. Oil will not be used with this technique.
